Best Indoor Toys for Active Boys and Girls
What to Buy Your Active Toddler or Young Child this Holiday Season
As the weather gets colder and the holidays approach I am reminded of the long days spent indoors soon to come. Unfortunately, just because it is winter and I want to hibernate, does not mean that my kids do. This Christmas and Hanukkah I will be buying my kids lots of active toys that they can enjoy indoors - and that will hopefully tire them out enough for me to enjoy a few quiet moments as well.
Take a look at what I have come up with and let me know if you have more gift ideas for physically active toddlers and young children.
Gigantic Keyboard Playmat with Speaker Plug In - Let them dance to their favorite tunes!
Giant Floor Piano Play Mat with Speaker Plug-in
Get them up and dancing while they explore musical notes! This gigantic keyboard play mat is a gift with a lot of "Wow"-factor! It has four play modes, which allow them to run, jump, slide and dance while making music. Adjustable volume, and eight musical instrument sounds and 10 melodies keep things interesting. An automatic power off system helps conserve battery. Includes built-in speaker plug-in for play-along with portable CD/mp3 player
Best Indoor Trampolines for Kids
Get them jumping!
I just purchased one of these trampolines for my 2 and 5 year old to share. If the jumping doesn't tire them out, then the fighting over whose turn it is should. But the best part is that when they're in school I plan on using it myself. Turns out trampoline workouts are great for a low impact cardio workout! And for only $30 this one is easy on the budget. Go Mom!
Inexpensive, Indoor Trampoline
Radio Flyer with Track
Get ready for a little retro fun with this Radio Flyer with a 6 foot race track. Your kids will love flying down the track over and over again and can also be used to race toy cars. When not in use it can be easily disassembled and stored. Sounds like the perfect gift!
We don't have one of these race tracks, but a friend does. You can bet that is my kids FAVORITE place to have a play date. In nice weather, bring this outside for year-round fun.
Good Old Fashioned Fun
I am pretty sure my mother never worried whether or not her kids were getting enough exercise. But then again, we did not have an array of battery operated and hand-held toys at our fingertips keeping us glued to the couch all day. Check out the toys below - chances are you had some of these when you were a kid.
These low tech kid-powered toys provided us with hours of entertainment and will delight - or at least occupy - your kids, too. No batteries required!
Gymnic Hop Balls
This classic rubber hopper provides hours of fun. Just make sure you get one for each of your kids because this is one toy they will not want to share.
Rocking See Saw
Spend the cold months working on gross motor skills like balance with this Rocking See Saw. Used in gyms everywhere, this toy will help your child master his equilibrium and have them in great shape for spring sports! (All while having a great time!)
